Words of Faith from our Ministers

James 3:17 “But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.”

The weight of a hard decision can sometimes be enough to leave you feeling immobilized and powerless. A few weeks ago, I remember lying on the floor for a couple of hours, staring at the ceiling, trying to figure out what to do. I confided in a few close friends and a few family members to try and get some good advice. It’s amazing how different the responses were. Whose advice do I take? How do I know who to listen to, when they all love me.

Acts 3:14 "But you disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked for a murderer to be granted to you…”

I can never grow numb to the crucifixion story of Jesus. Every time I read the story, or watch the movie, or a hear a sermon about how our sweet innocent Jesus was beaten and crucified on the cross, my heart aches and the tears flow. It’s like I can almost see myself right there in front of Him. And in a way, I was. We all were there… by way of a man named Barabbas.

1 Timothy 5:1 “Do not sharply rebuke an older man, but rather appeal to him as a father, to the younger men as brothers,”

Growing up, I sometimes envied being a girl as I watched my brothers do all the “cool stuff”. They got all the cool toys. They were able to play all the cool sports. They even wore cooler clothes. I often thought that girls got the short end of the stick having to wear silly dresses and play with silly toys. By the time I was 12 years old, I was convinced that being a boy was a better deal.

1 Peter 5:10 “And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.”

Every March, for the past 13 years, my mind wanders back to the 2005 Conference USA Tournament where the Memphis Tigers went up against sixth ranked Louisville. Both teams played their hearts out until the final 6 seconds of the game. The score was 75-73, Louisville, but Memphis had possession with 3 free throw opportunities.
